> Congruence

Acting in harmony with who you innately are is known as congruence. When you get out of bed in the morning, isn’t it nice to know that the sun is always going to rise in the east? We value congruence and our knowing that some things – and people – remain constant. Part of your being effective with others is demonstrating consistency in who you are when you interact with them.

In the process of personal development, congruence comes before character growth because you must first work on getting comfortable with you before you can move on to developing positive character that you don’t naturally possess. Trying to grow without first coming into harmony with who you innately are would be like mankind trying to fly to the moon without first understanding the laws of nature associated with the principle of gravity. Remember, there is nothing wrong with positive change (character growth) throughout your life – just don’t minimize the value of who you are by giving up your Core altogether. To do so would be extremely limiting to you and your life.

As you complete the activities in this section, remember how important the concept of congruence is and focus on how you can become better aligned with who you innately are so that you can offer yourself the opportunity to grow.
